Secrets of #MRX blogging revealed

This week I’m sitting on a panel of bloggers at AAPOR.  The two best #MRX bloggers in North America
are joining me, along with some bloggers from the more serious side of the
research profession.  While trying to
figure out how to fill my 10 minutes I had a look at page views since I started
blogging way back in 2005.  Following the
ups and downs made we wonder what brings people to this blog.  My data told me four things:

  1. Sarcasm sells.
A post earlier this year asking that #MRX prognosticators not use
certain words created the high water mark on the page views run chart.
  2. Conference reports interest people.  I saw big jumps in page views whenever I
blogged during a conference, even somewhat obscure conferences.
  3. Multi-part blogs are good.  I got a lot of visitors for my three (or
maybe it was four) par series on routers.
I also got in a ton of trouble, but that’s another story.
  4. Blog often, even when you’ve got nothing to
say.  There seems to be a momentum
factor.  When you get into a rhythm the
page views go up and stay up.  Ignore
your readers by taking a month off and they will repay you in kind.

As for this post, see #4 above.
